Life’s Work Clinic exists to help our patients manage their recovery from opioid misuse/dependency.  With this as our primary purpose, LWC is putting in place the following policies to safeguard the welfare and well-being of our patients, staff and practitioners in the face of the global Covid-19 pandemic.  These guidelines are to the best of our ability in line with the recommendations from the State of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Beginning Immediately:

  • All counseling appointments are now by video-chat.  All counseling will be done by phone or by the use of teleconferencing (often referred to as Skype).   

    • Many of Adam’s clients are already seen by telephone or two-way video (, and WhatsApp), so this will not change anything for them.  

    • All new clients will be seen exclusively by video-chat.

  • We are now offering a hybrid option of either in-person or video-chat appointments for medication management appointments. Patients with a long history of being stable will be given an option for either in person or remote appointments.  Patients who are still stabilizing will be required to be seen in-person at our Kalkaska office.  

    • Patients with phones that will not support UpDox video-chat services will be assisted in downloading the application on their phones or home computers.

      • Steps:

        • Text or call with your email. 

        • We will send you a link to download the Vsee App onto your phone or computer

        • Follow the instructions to create an account.

        • Viola!  You are ready to see your practitioner remotely from the comfort of your home or maybe your car (you know who you are ;-).

        • If anyone needs help with this process, please do not hesitate to call us.  It's not something you need to struggle with.  We are always here to help can also get any teenager in you life to do it in under 2 mins!

      • If you have already connected with Adam for tele-counseling, you already have the app and are ready to go!    

    • Any patient who is not able to do this due to technical issues will meet with their practitioner by UpDox, WhatsApp or by Phone.  

    • Payment should be made online through invoices that are sent to a patient's email.

      • If a patient is not able to pay online, a special appointment must be made ahead of time with the staff of LWC prior to your scheduled appointment to make a payment at the Kalkaska office.

      • ALL PAYMENTS NEED TO BE MADE BY CHECK, DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD AT LEAST ONE DAY BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT.  We simply are not able to keep track of all online payments the day of clinic.

        • You may call us if you have any challenges with paying online.  We can assist you with this process.  

      • All policies already in place for non-payment of services will continue to apply.

  • On Your Appointment Day:

    • All patients will be contacted at or around the time of their scheduled appointment by Adam who will  go over the appointment worksheet with the patient. 

    • After completing this phone call:

      • Appointment worksheet will be uploaded into your medical record.

      • Your Nurse Practitioner will review your appointment worksheet.

      • Once appointment worksheet has been reviewed, patients will be notified by phone call or text and seen by their practitioner either through UpDox Video, WhatsApp or by phone. 

    • Appointments for the following month will be sent via text as usual or by phone call if text is not available.

    • Medication Monitoring/Toxicology policies are random and will typically occur on appointment days over video-chat (mouth swabs).  

    • Toxicology kits will be mailed to your home, and if they do not arrive at your mailing address by your appointment day a separate appointment will be set up by Adam during your meeting that day with him for you to meet by video-chat to complete this.  As always, all reasonable accommodation will be made to make this as non-disruptive as possible for the patient and staff. 

    •  This procedure will be in place until September 2020 at which time we will re-evaluate. 

  • All Inductions for Medication Assisted Treatment will be done in-person.  All intakes/trnasfers/inductions will be done at the Kalkaska location regardless of whether or not follow up appointments continue to be through video-chat. 

We are here for our patients and our counseling clients.  Our dedication to you is and always will remain our top priority.  At the same time, we want to keep all of us safe so that we can continue to serve you.  It works for all of us.  Hopefully, when this is over, we can go back to face-to-face interactions for all appointments.  I know I will miss shaking hands will all of you and telling you how proud I am of each and every one of you!  I will just have to settle for this by phone or video-chat for the time being.
